Wigan Athletic - Honduras Lose to Disputed Penalty

Mexico 1-0 Honduras

Wigan Athletic left back Maynor Figueroa was accused of upending Mexico player Giovani dos Santos in the box and the resultant penalty saw Cuauhtémoc Blanco drill the ball home and see Honduras lose the game 1-0.

Mexico played rough football yet they seemed to be getting all the decisions in the intimidating Azteca Stadium and now they look likely qualifiers in what is a four country race for three places.

USA sit top of the group following a 1-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago, a game in which Latics man Jason Scotland was an 84th minute substitute, Mexico are in 2nd spot and Honduras drop to 3rd with Costa Rica, who lost 1-0 in El Salvador in 4th, there are just four points seperating all four teams, very tense.

Honduras will learn their World Cup qualifying fate in October when they face the USA at home on the 10th and then travel to fierce rivals El Salvador for the last group game four days later.
