Player ratings for the West Ham game 12/09/09
Chris Kirkland - 6
Kirkland made one excellent save late on and right at the death took a good catch from a West Ham corner when we needed him to be strong. Throughout the game though he looked quite hesitant to come off his line and on two occasions dithered on the ball following a back pass and almost paid the penalty with what would have been an embarrassing goal for West Ham, We need Kirkie back to his best
Mario Melchiot - 7
Solid display down the right, though early in the game was given the runaround by West Hams lively debutant Hines, but once Mario came to terms with the youngster he grew has the game wore on and started to get forward, helped set up the goal with good work with N`Zogbia
Emerson Boyce - 7
Defended well and alongside Bramble handled the threat of Cole comfortably, solid performance but one back pass put Kirkland under pressure, he is still coming to terms with the new playing style but another solid performance.
Titus Bramble - 8
Man mountain at the back for the Latics and again was on top of his game yesterday, some excellent distribution as well as the familiar bone crunching challenges, great game, my man of the match, led by example
Maynor Figueroa - 7
Good game from Maynor considering he only arrived back in the UK Friday tea-time, nearly scored with a header from a corner.
Charles N`Zogbia - 8
A livewire for the Latics firstly down the right and then late in the game down his preferred left, made the cross that set up Koumas before Hugo scored, good game from the little Frenchman
Momo Diame - 7
Possibly Diame`s best game since he arrived, broke up West Ham attacks, his distribution was good and he is starting to show good energy has his fitness increases, the sponsors man of the match, not for me but I can see why he was chosen
Hendry Thomas - 8
Thomas had another super game in the Latics midfield, he made some great tackles and kept Scott Parker quiet for most of the afternoon, his distribution was good and he looks like he is going to grow into a fantastic player for the Latics
Jason Koumas - 8
Koumas looks to be enjoying his football under Martinez, another good display from the enigmatic Welshman, he kept possession well, made some excellent crosses and his all round game was very good
Jordi Gomez - 6
Poor game from the Spaniard, play passed him by and at times he seemed lost, undoubtedly talented but needs to be stronger than he showed yesterday, he did have a good turn and shot in the first half which tested Green but apart from that not much left to say
Hugo Rodallega - 8
Ran the line tirelessly, considering he only arrived back in the UK Friday tea-time a great energetic performance, he sniffed his goal pouncing on Greens parry of Koumas` strike and he gave Upson plenty to think about.
Paul Scharner - 7
Replaced Koumas on 65 minutes and looked very lively, involved himself in both attack and defence and gave a good performance for the 30 minutes he was on the pitch
Jason Scotland - 6
Came on for the last 20 minutes replacing Hugo and tried to make an impact, what he lacks in skill Scotland definitely makes up for in endeavour and he certainly gave his all yesterday, he had three chances, one going through one on one but got the ball stuck under his feet, I would love him to make a success of his time at the club, cant see it but he does put a smile on your face.
Only got 5 minutes so unfair to rate, should have been on a lot sooner replacing the ineffectual Gomez
Roberto Martinez - 8
Bobby`s game plan bore fruition yesterday and we are starting to look capable under his direction, he replaced tiring players, though I feel Gomez should have gone off on 70 minutes instead of being moved to the right of midfield, and got his team to play with passion as well as skill, West Ham are a similar side to ourselves and they play the ball around and like to keep possession so to come out on top with the three points from the game is looking good.
