Wigan Athletic put in a fine team performance to brush aside Chelsea in yesterdays impressive home victory at the DW Stadium, lets see how the individual performances went:
Chris Kirkland - 7
All though he made an absolute howler by allowing a tame Drogba effort to slip through his hands and go between his legs Kirkie still had a decent enough game and he was commanding in his box and this week came off his line quickly on two separate occasions to snuff out threats.
Mario Melchiot - 7
A good game from Mario, defended well against Anelka and Malouda plus he got forward on every possible occasion marauding up the flank and supporting both the midfield and attack
Titus Bramble - 8
Solid as a rock, no messing performance and scored the games opening goal, great defensive qualities on show and one tackle in the box late on was simply superb
Emerson Boyce - 8
A great performance by Boycie, defended well and nearly had a goal to his name with a swivvel and shot following a corner, well saved by Cech though.
Maynor Figueroa - 8
Maynor back to his best, defended well and his great run and fast feet led to the Latics last goal
Charles N`Zogbia - 8
Quick thinking from little Charlie made Brambles goal has he went for the short corner, almost paid off again a little later in the game, stopped Ashley Cole from getting forward, a great performance from the little Frenchman
Momo Diame - 9
Super display in midfield and possible his best game to date for the Latics, this lad gets better each week and at only 22 we are going to have a superstar on our hands.
Hendry Thomas - 8
Another thumping performance from the man who has made the most Premier League tackles so far this season and also just as important he has the highest success rate. Alongside Diame he controlled the midfield yesterday
Hugo Rodallega - 8
Switched out wide left Hugo got on with the job and buckled down to put in a great shift, he linked up well with Jason Scotland at every opportunity and produced a great run to round Cech before being brought down for the penalty.
Paul Scharner - 9
Stunning performance by the madcap Austrian, his enthusiasm rubbed off on the rest of the team and his energy and running created space for the other midfield men to exploit, he brought a battling quality to the top of the midfield that`s been missing this season, he kept going for the 90 minutes and rounded off a superb display by sliding in the last goal of the game, my man of the match, as much for his movement as anything else
Jason Scotland - 8
What this lad lacks in quality he makes up for in effort, a great display of hold up play, he brought others in and linked well with Hugo on numerous occasions and he gave Terry and Carvahlo a torrid time.
Marlon King - 7
Came on in the second half for the tiring Jason Scotland and put in a shift, what more can you ask.
Roberto Martinez - 10
Fantastic, done what no other Latics boss has ever done, beat a top four side in the Premier League, didn`t abandon his footballing philosophy as so many were crying for him to do, instead he slightly shuffled his pack and reaped great rewards. More please
