Latics Reserves 2-2 Blackburn Reserves

Wigan Athletic reserves drew 2-2 with their Blackburn Rovers counterparts in an entertaining game at Leigh Sports Village last night with goals from Tomasz Kupisz and Nick Meace for the Latics, who also had defender Adam Buxton sent off for a late challenge.

Blackburn took the lead through Michael Potts but the Latics hit back immediately when Tomasz Cywka crossed and Kupisz made no mistake from close range.

1-1 at half-time and though the second half was evenly contested it was the Latics who took the lead when substitute Jordan Rugg`s overhead kick was met by Nick Meace who sent a looping header in at the far post on 81 minutes.

Blackburn equalised when Tom Hitchcock netted from close range, Latics almost snatched victory at the death but Joe Holt was thwarted when through on goal by Rovers keeper Jake Green who saved well with his legs.

Reserve team manager Graham Barrow was pleased with the performance and following the game had this to say:

'They worked to get back to 1-1 and I just had a few words with them at half-time to make sure they weren't satisfied with that result, and although we didn't get going straight away in the second-half, once we did we fully deserved to be in the lead.

'There were some good all-round performances right through the team. I've said all season that the effort these players put in is fantastic; they have a great attitude towards the game and slowly but surely they're getting their rewards.

'We moved the ball around nicely in the second-half, and maybe could have had a little more composure to kill it off. Saying that, this was probably the youngest side we've had out this season and they all performed really well."

Latics v Wolves - Big Game Preview

There is a little bit of pressure starting to mount down at the Latics, no win in seven games and sitting bottom of the pile, the sooner we can get a three points haul in the bag the better.

Gary Caldwell felt that his team were unlucky not to win the game at Preston on Friday never mind lose it, a wickedly deflected effort early on followed by some resolute defending kept the Latics at bay, but a failure to take two excellent chances was the downfall as we lost by the odd goal for the 7t
