Latics Target Canella As Figueroa Replacement

Latics Target Canella As Figueroa Replacement

Reports in Spain suggest that Wigan Athletic are attempting to secure the services of Sporting Gijon left back Roberto Canella Suárez.

The 21 year old defender who is commonly known as Roberto Canella, was an ever present for the Spanish club last season and attracted the interest of several other clubs including Real Madrid and Stoke City with the player actually turning down a move to Stoke.

Latics current left back Maynor Figueroa was all set for a dead-line day move to Premier League rivals Sunderland at the close of the last transfer window before the plug was pulled on the deal by Latics boss Roberto Martinez who couldn`t secure a replacement in time.

Figueroa is expected to get his move to the North East once the window re-opens in January and it looks like Martinez is not going to get caught short this time with the speedy Canella firmly in his sights.

Vital Boxing - Bellew Wants Lebedev Next

Figgy seems to have settled down recently, he was obviously looking a bit 'distracted' at the start of the season

i would like that move however we will have another honduran in january once the window re opens, his name is Oscar Garcia is a right back and he also can play as a midfielder!!
08/10/2009 15:04:00
Yep I believe we will anggelo and Garcia is another player I am lookin forward to seeing
08/10/2009 16:59:00
Both have operated as left and right midfielders before being converted to SB's by their club and countries..
08/10/2009 17:31:00
how is annoying is Bruce, seriously...
08/10/2009 21:15:00
i think that wigan should wait util the end of the world cup, because if figueroa plays well on that, wigan could get much more i think, I hope we will be quilify because we play saturday against usa if we beat them we are automaticly in SouthAfrica.Honduras has a very strong team, we have Inter milan striker David Suazo, Tottteham midfielder Wilson Palacios, Wigan midfielder Thomas and Figueroa also, Parma fc midfielder Julio Leon , Bari fc midfielder Edgard Alvarez, Tottenham spur next signing defender Osman Chavez, Wigan next signing Oscar Garcia, Itwish Town next signing left back Emilio Izaguirre , Aderlecht of Belgium defender Victor Bernardez, many newspaper say that this Honduran team is the best ever.
08/10/2009 21:38:00
Figueroa is better offensively than he is defensively. His strength and good pace is hard to match. However, he sometimes has problems defending, and not because of his physical ability or inability, but rather because of his relative lack of tactical discipline. Maybe Bruce ( a former defender, if I am not mistaken) knew how to correct his flaws better than Martinez. Greetings from Honduras.
