Dave Whelan Looking To Sell Wigan Athletic


Latics chairman Dave Whelan says he is ready to sell the club if he can find a buyer or investor willing to put £100 million into the coffers.

In an interview with business website Insider Media Whelan says that he realises he isn`t getting any younger and sooner or later he will have to pass the club on, but he says he doesn`t want his money back and that if an investor can be found willing to plough the quoted £100 million in to the Latics then he would give it to them

There have been rumblings for a couple of years now that Dave Whelan wanted to get out of Wigan Athletic and only last year representatives from Hyundai came over to Wigan from Korea for two weeks looking at the viability of buying into the Premier League through the Latics.

Speaking to Insider Media Whelan said: "I have to sell Wigan Athletic sooner or later"

"None of us can last forever so I`ve got to move the club on. But I don`t want any money back.

"If I could get someone to put £100m into it, I would give it to them. So long as I was sure the investor was doing it for the benefit of our club and his money was in the bank for the use of the club."


If a rich investor or consortium willing to take a punt on the Latics can be found remains to be seen but we should be wary of what has happened at other clubs in the not too distant past before wishing for Whelan to be replaced, a pity it won`t be passed down through his family.
