Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez says that England head coach Fabio Capello is the World number one, without a doubt and following on from totally dominating their qualifying group Martinez believes that the Italian can guide England all the way to the final next summer.
The Latics boss knows only too well the Spanish League and he appreciates how well Capello has done when managing arguably the worlds biggest club in Real Madrid, not once but twice, coupled with the success he had with Italian giants Milan, Roma and Juventus Martinez argues that these are the credentials to rank him as the best in the business.
Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Martinez said: 'Having lived and worked in Spain I know the intense demands put on the coach of Real Madrid, and it is the hardest place to manage in the world.
'But Capello has done it twice at the Bernabeu, and that's the mark of a great coach.
'The hardest thing, I think, is understanding the different nuances in each country, how their football works.
'But Capello seems to possess that special intuition to adapt, improve a player and make things work.
'He has done it at Milan, Roma, Juventus and enjoyed remarkable success.
'One of the biggest qualities of a great manager is how adaptable they are - understanding the different environments, and for me Capello is number one without a doubt.'
The young Latics boss says that England have always produced great players, but the problem has been getting them playing together and getting the tactics right, a blend that Capello has managed to sort out in a very short period of time and he can see them going all the way.
Martinez continues: 'England always had special players, but tactically they couldn't find the right partnerships on the pitch.
'However, Capello has found the solution to all of them in a short period of time.
'All the signs are that England will go very close to winning the World Cup - and I think they can.
'I just hope they don't play Spain before the final.'
What a final that would be.
