Latics Keep Fingers Crossed on Kirkland Fitness

Latics Keep Fingers Crossed on Kirkland Fitness

Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland picked up an injury to his finger clearing a dangerous cross in Sundays 1-1 draw at the DW Stadium against Manchester City and he received lengthy treatment during the game to middle finger of his left hand from club doctor Mike Ashworth.

It appears that the big shot stopper has dislocated his finger and if that is the only damage then a secure strapping and a dose of pain killers will be enough to see him through the week and Saturdays game at Premier League newcomers Burnley.

However a broken bone or ligament damage would be of more concern and the medical team at the DW are taking no chances and sending Kirkland for scans to determine the full extent of the injury, speaking to the press Latics boss Roberto Martinez expressed his concern and caution, he said: 'We'll be having all the scans and all the tests possible to find out the extent of the injury.

'At the moment we feel it might only be a dislocated finger.

'But we need to see exactly what the situation is and we'll find out more over the next 24 hours.'

Fingers crossed then, whoops no pun intended
