Latics Reserves 2-1 Hull City Reserves

Latics Reserves 2-1 Hull City Reserves

Wigan Athletic second string beat their Hull City counterparts in the Barclays Premier Reserve League at Robin Park tonight with goals from Tomasz Kupisz and Rachid Bouaouzan, Latics old boy Jimmy Bullard played an hour for the Tigers following his return from a long term injury

Latics fell behind against the run of play when Hull forward Richard Garcia rose at a corner and headed home, this seemed to shake the young Wigan side and Hull came into the game with Garcia testing keeper Nicholls with a rasping shot which the young shot stopper just managed to tip over.

Hull were given the chance to increase their lead when Jimmy Bullard, who looked a class above, was bundled over in the box by Nick Meace, Bullard stepped up to take the kick himself only for Nicholls to pull off a great save diving to his right and pushing the ball out for a corner.

The penalty save lifted the Latics and they started to become dominant again with Bouaouzan and Cywka lively, but it was Kupisz who pulled the Latics level with a great finish from a narrow angle on the left.

With the score tied at 1-1 at half time it was the Latics who started the second half with the most urgency and Bouaouzan tested Hull keeper Oxley with a rasping drive, Kupisz, Holt and Cywka were all busy going forward whilst Amaya and Langley were solid at the back.

It was no surprise when the Latics took the lead half way through the second half when good work and a fine shot from Rachid Bouaouzan left Oxley with no chance has the Dutchman struck home from just outside the area.

Latics played out the game without looking like they would concede and so achieved their first league win of the season.

Video Highlights - Wigan Athletic 0 Nottingham Forest 0

The action(?) from yesterday's game at the DW Stadium between Wigan Athletic and Nottingham Forest which ended goalless:

Report - Latics 0 Forest 0 - What A Shocker

Thirteen games to save our Championship status, first up a home game against Nottingham Forest who are on a shocking run of form, conceded 10 goals in their last three matches, three of their first choice defenders missing through injury, they had lost 11 of their 16 away games this season with a -16 goal difference on the road and sat just six points above us in the table, surely a game that we would set out to win.

Checking the team selection I felt slightly optimistic but slightly conf
