The stats are out and show that the Latics are the 6th best passing side in the Premier League with 2753 successful passes made so far this season and they all so show that in Momo Diame and Hendry Thomas they have two of the best tacklers in the league.
Sitting on top of Premier Leagues top tacklers table Thomas is showing that indeed the wait, 12 months, for his signature was very much worthwhile and with Diame in 5th place having missed the opening two games of the season gives some indication the centre midfield in the Latics side is definitely an area that is working to its optimum.
With almost a quarter of the season gone Martinez is pleased with the way his team is progressing and he couldn`t hide his delight speaking to the clubs official website when he commented on the statistical proof that he`s got it right, he said: 'We're coming the end of the first quarter of the season and those stats are a good reflection of the progress we're making.
'They show that we're doing well in different sides of the game, being successful at getting the ball back and in what we do in possession. It's a big positive to get those stats and it shows we're on the right path.
'(Hendry)Thomas and (Momo) Diame have clicked straight away. Their partnership works really well, obviously they speak the same language which helps, but you can see that they have that chemistry where they don't have to do a lot of talking to one another because it comes so naturally and they understand each other's game.
'The good thing is that I think there is more to come and that we can continue to improve on those stats.
'I think we're still in the right direction and we are making massive progress on a daily basis. We've had a few ups and downs so far, but when you look at our performances we have been consistent in certain aspects, so it has been a period of trying to look behind the score-line and trying to see how the players are developing.
'I think it's important not to look at the fixture list as a list of score-lines. We now have a group of fixtures in which each game will bring different challenges and we need to adapt to those games. The biggest aim is that we are consistently competitive in every fixture, and if we do that the level of performance will give us the results we deserve.'
