Latics Linked With Adam Johnson

Wigan Athletic are the latest club being linked with a move for Middlesbrough star Adam Johnson according to reports in the Daily Mail but face competition for the England under 21 star from Premier League rivals Everton and Sunderland.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez has had his scouts casting their eye over the young midfield man and they couldn`t help but be impressed on Saturday when the 22 year old topped an excellent display with a fine goal in the 2-2 draw at Preston.

Johnson, who is in the last year of his contract, was famously tracked by Real Madrid last January though he says that being linked with a host of clubs doesn`t faze him, he told reporters: I have been linked with massive, massive clubs since I was 18. I thrive on it.

"When you get mentioned with these big clubs it boosts your confidence, any player would like it, I intend to get on with my own game and what ever happens, happens"

Johnson would be a great signing for the Latics and he would certainly suit the style of play that Roberto has introduced to the club, we have competition for him but you never know and with him being out of contract in June Middlesbrough might be willing to deal.
