'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Roberto Takes a Dig at Brucie

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has been speaking to the Spanish press about Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson and his run in with the FA over the Alan Wiley 'fit to referee` affair.

He says that the FA seem to have bottled it when dishing out punishment and question if the Old Trafford boss has too much influence, he told Spanish newspaper AS: 'They have just sanctioned Ferguson for saying that referee was not fit enough and the truth is that they're almost apologising to him for punishing him'

'Any other coach would have been crushed for that, Ferguson has been here for a lifetime and that carries a lot of weight.'

Roberto also had a swipe at former Latics boss Steve Bruce who left for Sunderland in May intimating that Bruce along with Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce suck up to Ferguson in the hope of following in his footsteps as Manchester United manager at some point in the future, he continued: 'Ferguson has his group of faithfuls, people who are committed to him: Steve Bruce, who was a player with him, Sam Allardyce, who thinks he will be his successor at Old Trafford, and others'

Showing solidarity with a compatriot Roberto gave a sympathetic acknowledgement of the stick Liverpool boss Benitez gets when he finished with: 'On the other side there's Rafa Benítez and he gets attacked from all sides.'

Now this is what I have been waiting for! I was complaining the other week to my friend that Bobby is too nice and he said "Give him time."
