Paul Scharner Doubtful For Pompey Trip

Wigan Athletic star Paul Scharner is a doubt ahead of the game at Fratton Park against Portsmouth tomorrow, not with his hip injury, nor because of the ten stitches he received in a head injury in last Saturdays emphatic win against Burnley, no Scharns has been in the wars again and he is suffering from a slight hamstring strain, but its enough to make him a doubt for tomorrow.

The Austria international has bee sensational for the Latics this season revelling in a role that he simply loves playing, midfield action man, he set up Latics 3rd goal at Turf Moor last week and got himself injured in the process but that wont put him off getting his head in where it hurts.

Scharner has given the attacking third of the Latics a solid look and with his energy and enthusiasm he not only supports the attack but also lends muscle to the middle of the park and stops opposition defenders from carrying the ball out of defence, this is an area that he has excelled in and his presence here allows both Diame and Thomas extra freedom from just acting as sitting midfield men.

If Scharner is missing tomorrow then he will be very much missed but it is just like the madcap Austrian to lap up the drama and leave it until the last minute before announcing he is fit to play in typical Scharner fashion grabbing the limelight.
