Roberto Martinez Offers No Excuses For Defeat

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez today offered no excuses for Saturdays abysmal performance at Portsmouth and he says the Latics got exactly what they deserved, nothing.

A 4-0 drubbing was a big let down following the high of the win at Burnley and at the end of a week when the club was in the spot-light for all the wrong reasons firstly Fergiegate and then the Marlon King guilty verdict Martinez could have been excused for looking to external factors for such a poor performance.

The Latics boss though was quick to say that Portsmouth played well and thoroughly deserved their win, he said: 'We knew this was going to be a difficult game, we were well-prepared for it, but we let ourselves down badly in everything we did on the ball.

'There are no excuses for the way we started the game and there are no excuses for why we didn't reach our standards on the ball.

'The reality is that sometimes you need a little bit of luck in order to get back in the game, but unfortunately nothing went our way.

'You have to say Portsmouth worked hard to get their result, which they deserved on the day.'

“Sometimes the worst angriness is inside,” he said. “I can guarantee you that this is one of my most angry days.” Don't make Roberto angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry!
