Latics To Wear Special Shirts

Latics To Wear Special Shirts

Wigan Athletic are marking Remembrance Day on Sunday by wearing specially designed shirts for the Premier League fixture against Fulham at the DW Stadium with a poppy emblazoned on the left side of the chest.

Also as a gesture the Latics are inviting, in conjunction with the Mayor's Office at the Town Hall, serving military personnel, uniformed organisations and veterans who are parading at the various Remembrance Sunday services around the Borough of Wigan to attend the game in their uniforms as guests of the club.

A fantastic gesture I feel by the club and being an ex Firefighter of 20 years with a son who is currently serving in the British Army and thankfully he returned safely in May following an eight month tour in Iraq I am proud that my club have taken this step to support the forces and the services.

Latics Chief Executive Officer Brenda Spencer says: 'As a club we are very happy to support the Poppy Appeal in this way as Wigan Athletic players wear the poppy on their shirts for the very first time.

'We also welcome the servicemen and women from the local area to the DW Stadium and trust that the sense of community will be felt on this special day.'
