Life long Wigan Athletic supporter, season ticket holder, shareholder and former editor of the Latics websites watv.co.uk and our very own Vital Wigan, Ian Marrow has decided to do get rid of something that has taken him 25 years to grow……his beard.
Now some of us find it hard to get rid of a couple of days growth on the chin, I become quite fond of my stubble, but imagine losing a quarter of a century`s worth of stubble in one go! Well that`s exactly what Ian intends to do all in the name of Children in Need and he is asking for our support, Ian contacted me this week to see if through the site we could offer him some support, exposure and possibly some donations and I am only too willing to help, so over to the good fellow himself:
"A couple of weeks ago we were having a discussion in the office about
what we could do to raise money for Children in Need this year.
"Being a rather hirsute person I got the usual suggestions about shaving my head for a fiver, which I refuse to do for any money. In
the end I relented and said that if they could raise £1,000 in the
month up to Children in Need night, which is twice what we'd normally
raise, I'd shave my 25 year-old beard off, confident in the knowledge
that they would never raise that amount of money."
Whoops Ian that was a bad move ;)
"Unfortunately the target was reached within a week, so now I'm
committed to shaving off the product of 25 years careful nurturing and
grooming.
"The current total is £1,206 but if it is going to happen I don't want to limp over the target, I want to double it. So now I've set up a website for further donations to try to get up to £2,000, people can
donate at www.justgiving.co.uk/ianmarrow
As you can see Ian`s beard is indeed a thing of…well it`s a thing, its long and there is lots of it
Back to Ian:
"Here is a picture as I am now. As you can see I'm wearing a
Latics T-Shirt, as is the dog. It just so happened that I was wearing
this on the day that the photo was taken at work, OK not too much of a
co-incidence as I wear a Latics T-Shirt most days, but I intend to buy
a T-shirt with the new logo for the after shot."
Well if you want to show some support for Ian, donations and messages then you can do so by clicking here
Good luck Ian and I look forward to seeing your chin!
