Wigan Athletic - Martinez, 'We Need to Strengthen`

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez says that it is imperative to bring a new striker to the club in January now that Marlon King has left to serve time after he received his custodial sentence last week.

With just Hugo Rodallega and Jason Scotland as recognised first team strikers the Latics are very light up front so identifying and bringing in a new forward is a priority, speaking to Sky Sports Roberto says: 'We are light up front as we have lost Marlon King, which was unexpected.

'That is something we will have to look at and do something in the next window.

'We need to strengthen as we have lost a player and cannot leave ourselves open.

'We know our budget, the money we have to spend. But it is not just about that.

'It is about finding the right players and personalities. We will work on different markets to try and make things happen.'

The Latics boss says that severity of the case and the decision to give King a custodial sentence caught him out but until they can bring in a replacement focus is needed by the rest of the squad, he continues: "Obviously it is a drastic situation when you lose a player in those circumstances, but there is nothing we can do.

'We need to in the dressing room focus on the games we have got ahead.
