Wigan Athletic - Edman Set For Spurs Return

Wigan Athletic left back Erik Edman is set to keep his place in the Latics starting line-up for Sundays Premier League clash at White Hart Lane when Roberto Martinez names his side to face Tottenham Hotspur.

Edman made his first start in 18 months in last weeks draw with Fulham following his recovery from a horrific knee injury sustained in March 2008, though he tired dramatically in the 2nd half he did enough to suggest he is back to his best but the likeable Swede is pragmatic enough to realise why he finds himself back in the team.

Maynor Figueroa has been a permanent fixture in the position since he made his debut in the final game of the 07/08 season but ironically he too has been laid low with a knee ligament injury, though not as serious as Edman`s

Speaking to the press Edman says he believes that Figueroa will be back in the side once he is recovered, he said: 'I still think Maynor is the first-choice left-back.

'He's been doing so well over the last couple of seasons."

His play time last weekend gave Edman the chance to sample the Martinez style and he says that there is a lot of changes from the old way, he continued: 'Last Sunday was obviously my first game under the new manager, and there have been a lot of changes in the way we play.

'We're still in the transition period he speaks of, and you have to give things time - especially when you have a lot of new players coming in, and a new style to adapt to.

'But, having said that, I still want to do as well as possible when I'm given the chance.'

Edman is a class player and it is good to see him back in first team action
