Wigan Athletic - Figueroa Could Be Back In A Week

Wigan Athletic left back Maynor Figueroa is set to make a dramatic return from injury following a speedy recovery from his knee ligament tear and he could be back in the side to face Sunderland Saturday week at the DW Stadium.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez said last week that Figueroa was `ahead of schedule` and likely to be `back sooner rather than later` following his injury picked up at Burnley on October 24th and that could mean a surprise recall for the Sunderland game.

The Honduras international suffered a tear in his medial ligament and he has made fantastic strides in his recovery, the popular left back was in Tegucigalpa at the weekend to see his country take on and beat Latvia 2-1 in a pre-World Cup friendly and whilst there he spoke to press saying that he will be ready for return in 1 weeks time.

Whether Martinez wants to rush and ultimately risk Figueroa is still to be seen especially with such an able deputy as Erik Edman but the Latics are a stronger unit with Figgy in the side.
