The 2000 memories series continues, celebrating the Latics hitting 2000 points as a league club in the recent game against Fulham, Vital member John Wilcock, better known as Rabeem to regulars on the site, tells us which game has been the most memorable to him, over to you John:
Latics 3-1 Chelsea
I have been a Latics fan for approximately 7 years now and there are plenty of memorable games I could choose from but for me, the most exhilarating match I`ve ever experienced is the recent home game against Chelsea this season when we won 3-1.
It wasn't so much the victory itself but the fact that we had finally overcome one of the Premier League's elite at the 35th time of asking!
Now I will be the first to admit that prior to that game I expected a bit of a slaughtering after coming back from a trouncing at the Emirates and so wasn't optimistic about accruing anything from the match to say the least. But that Saturday afternoon I felt nothing but surprise and excitement, so much so I was sensing shivers down my spine it was that entertaining.
After Drogba equalised at the beginning of the 2nd half to cancel out Bramble's goal I just got the feeling that Chelsea were going to open our floodgates and that we'd be leaking goals for fun. I thought it'd be another of those days when we start off well and totally fizzle out towards the end but no, we stuck at it and carried on battling which is what I admired most about that game.
Our willingness to plug away and drive for that 2nd goal rather than capitulate really excited me and at the end of the day I thought we thoroughly deserved the three points. In my opinion the Cech sending off was a bit harsh but I didn't care, it was a blatant penalty and Rodders had capitalised.
As for the 3rd goal by Scharns, that was utter class. It was immense the way Figueroa (I think it was him) dribbled it in between 2 Chelsea defenders to lay the ball across to Scharner inside the box to put the icing on the cake. 3-1 and it was game over! :)
I was so thrilled, stunned and on cloud 9 I cheered with fellow Wiganers sat next to me and had taken a picture of the scoreboard before I departed the stadium. That was most probably the best Latics game I have ever witnessed and to celebrate the occasion I went back to Salford and consumed a little (well, a lot!) too much Corona! It was like watching Brazil I tell ya, never to be forgotten!
