Benson in Miami To Tie Up Palacios Deal

Benson in Miami To Tie Up Palacios Deal

Wigan Athletic general manager John Benson has flown to Miami to continue negotiations with Johnny Palacios and his agent over his proposed move to the Latics in January.

Palacios is with the Honduras squad as they face Peru in an international friendly and with the World Cup finals fast approaching both parties want to get the deal sorted as soon as possible so that the young right back can concentrate on his football and give his all to his country as they aim to make an impact in South Africa.

Johnny is of course the younger brother of former Latics star Wilson Palacios who is now at Spurs but at Wigan there will still be familiar faces when he arrives with compatriots Maynor Figueroa and Hendry Thomas very much part of the club.

Hendry Thomas has been speaking about the connection between the Latics and Honduras, especially the Honduran club Deportivo Olimpia where he and both Wilson Palacios and Figueroa signed from, it is also the club that Johnny Palacios plays for, Thomas says on the matter: 'I'm not really sure if there is an official link-up between the two clubs, although obviously there is a lot of interest back home about Wigan.

'The key is that if the players already here are putting in good performances then that can only open the door further for more Hondurans to come.'

If the quality of players can be kept at the present rate then long may it continue, there does appear to be a special relationship between Wigan and Honduras and as long as all parties benefit then it can only be good.

There you go my friends: As an Honduras born and resident of United States, I,m very proud of my fellows countrymen: Wilson Palacios(Tottemham-Spurs), Maynor Figueroa, Thomas Hendry(Wigan's-Latics) and possible Johnny Palacios to Wigan's club. Also Osman Chavez in try-out with Sunderland.
