Roberto and the Team Support Movember

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has got behind John Hartson`s campaign to promote awareness of testicular cancer by growing a moustache in November, the campaign is called Movember.

The former Wales international and Wimbledon, West Ham and Celtic star was diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year and he says: "I had that lump for probably four years now I think of it.

'In that time I played for Celtic, West Brom and Norwich. They have club doctors that work 24/7 and I never asked them to check out my lump - how stupid is that?

'It was ignorance, and I nearly lost my life over it.'

The big Welshman doesn`t want others to ignore any signs and sees the Movember campaign as a great way to raise awareness, Hartson says: 'With all the chemo I've had I need a stick-on 'tache - I've no chance of growing my own.

'But by the end of November I'd love to see Super Goals full of players with seventies moustaches.'

'It's a funny way to highlight a serious cause. Please don't die of ignorance.'

Latics boss Roberto Martinez knows John Hartson from his days as Swansea manager, Hartson is a massive Swansea fan and Roberto says that he and the rest of the Latics squad want to show support, speaking to the official website Roberto said: 'We want to support a very good cause and John Hartson is promoting the awareness of testicular cancer at the moment by asking people to grow moustaches.

'As a squad we all decided that we would go ahead with this and show our support by growing a bit of facial hair, it's the least we can do really."

'We have huge admiration for John Hartson here, he's been a winner all of his career and it was a huge shock when the news regarding himself broke. I've spoken to him a few times to wish him all the best, and he's an example to everyone with the way he's fought through this part of his life and we're going to support him in every way that we can.'
