Wigan Athletic - Fans To Get Refund

Wigan Athletic players are set to refund the travelling supporters who went to White Hart Lane and witnessed the 9-1 drubbing at the hands of Spurs.

A press release sent to Vital Wigan from the Latics media manager Ed Jones confirms this:

PLAYERS REFUND FANS

Wigan Athletic players to personally refund Tottenham tickets

The club have announced that the players of Wigan Athletic have decided to personally refund every Latics fan who bought a ticket from the DW Stadium for the match against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

Latics had a sizeable following at White Hart Lane and skipper Mario Melchiot, speaking on behalf of all the players, said today: 'We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday, and this is a gesture we HAVE TO make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty.

'There is not a lot else to say, just that as a group of professionals we were embarrassed by the way we performed, we feel it was below our standards and this is something we feel we owe to the fans.

'Now we have to draw a line under the game, focus completely on training this week and bounce back on Saturday.

'We are professionals, we will take it on the chin and move on but it`s important that we do not take our supporters for granted.'

The club has confirmed that every supporter who bought a ticket from the DW Stadium for the game yesterday should contact the ticket office, either in person or by phoning 0871 33 66 552, and a full refund will be posted to their home address, hopefully within 14 days.

Refunds must be claimed on or before Friday 4th December 2009.

Its the least they could do. At least its a step in the right direction. Have you read the latest article on Vital Bolton? Shocking.
robin
yeah but wat do u expect from bolton. vital city are no better either.
pachna_spurs
its nice to know there are some decent spurs fans who can offer sympathy to Wigan fans at this bad time. As for Bolton and City, well, they can go and do something to themselves!
robin
and by 'something' I meant a rude word that is four letters long and begins with the sixth letter of the alphabet. I'm not usually like this but I'm very bitter at the moment.
robin
will they cough up for petrol, pies, pints and the matchday programme?
merlin
I think they should do more than what they've done quite frankly. Maybe send out a free signed shirt to all Wigan supporters or do something along those types of lines. Maybe even have a session with players and fans so they can personally offer apologies. Its not beyond reason.
robin
Well Well Well good old Roberto from a happy Swan who needs him we certainly don't

It is bad like, that you got drubbed, but with all due respect - taking in mind you are a rugby town, 600 for away match is apalling. I have monitored your attendances for a wee while now, and I think it's atrocious. My club Hartlepool United - whose average attendance for the past 6 years has been about 4800, take always about 500 to London, and we are further north, and a much small club.Any thoughts?

I would expect the same if the scores were reversed. It was a terrible day at the office for Wigan, but the devoted fans travelling to the opposite end of the country should never suffer because the players didn't turn up. Can't help but think Martinez had something to do with it so good on him. Hopefully he's given time to reshape a squad torn apart by transfers.

I DONT KNOW HOW IT IS FOR AWAY FANS BUT I CANT EVEN GET TICKETS FOR SPURS AT WHITE HART LANE. THINK U HAVE TO BE IN THE FREE MASONS MAYBE
pachna_spurs
Chrssypools in the lower leagues wigan always had a good away following however in the prem your looking at £35 minimum for a ticket!
fazman
full marks to the players for taking this decision, great gesture and not sure many would do that. I must admit I've come out of a few games over the years thinking the players should give their wages to a charity instead of having the cheek to bank it. So despite an awful day for you guys, at least your players have shown a bit of class off the field.
