Wigan Athletic - Maynor Figueroa Is Back

Wigan Athletic left back Maynor Figueroa is due to be recalled to the starting eleven on Saturday for the visit of Sunderland to the DW Stadium following his return from injury.

Just how important the Honduras international is to the Latics is emphasised by the fact that the three games Figueroa has missed have coincided with two losses one draw and 15 goals conceded.

Luckily for the team there has been an international break or there could have been even more games in the period that he has been out, the Latics have simply been ravaged down the left side and his return to the team will hopefully help plug a gaping hole.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez most be breathing a little easier now that Figueroa`s return is imminent and he is relieved that the injury cleared up quickly and ahead of schedule.

Speaking to the press Martinez says: 'Maynor has been working very hard behind the scenes, and his recovery has been speeded up by his general fitness levels and his physique.

'The treatment he has had has worked really well, but you have to be very disciplined also.

'When you have got a body and the muscular definition that he has got, it really helps with things such as ligament injuries.

'As a result, he has been better able to cope with that sort of injury a lot better than some others, so I was not too surprised to see him recover so quickly.

'He was not 100% fit to play on Sunday, but I felt it was important for him to get back in to that environment and start feeling part of the squad again."

The worth of a quality player can be gauged when they are missing from the team and how the team copes without them, quite frankly the Latics haven`t coped without Figgy and with this in mind there is no way that he should be allowed to leave come January if the rumours about a switch to Sunderland are true, no matter what the fee involved is.
