In the build up to the Wigan Athletic Vs Sunderland game at the DW Stadium both bosses, Latics Roberto Martinez and Steve Bruce from Sunderland have been speaking to the press, obviously there are quite a few talking points surrounding the game, Latics mauling at Spurs last week, Dave Whelans comments about `dodgy signings` and Steve Bruce responding and reminiscing, lets see what they had to say:
Latics boss Roberto Martinez :
'If you watch the first half and ask anyone to guess the (full-time) score I don't think anyone would get it right'
'There were many things we didn't do right in the second half. The scoreline highlights the problems we have had this season and we need to ensure that never happens again and get back to the levels which, at times, have been outstanding this season.'
'The players are feeling ready to flush the bad feeling out of their bodies'
'The extra spice of Steve coming back would have been a talking point, but the players are so focused to put right what happened against Tottenham.
'It doesn't matter who we are playing against, it's about our performance. The fixture doesn't need any extra spice.'
'We've had great support from our fans who I know have been hurting with us, but the humiliation is not from a score-line like that, the humiliation comes if you're not able to find the answers or become stronger afterwards.
'I'll guarantee that is what we've done this week and we're going to be ready for Saturday.
'When you're hurting from something as a group the human instinct is to get close to one another and work even harder to overcome it.
'We've always had very high standards in training and this week has really highlighted that, which has been very pleasing. The next game can't come quick enough for the players, they're eager to put things right and can't wait for kick-off.'
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce:
'I had a very, very good team there - for 12 months it was probably the best team I've ever managed, they were that good'
'From Christmas to Christmas we picked up something like 60 points and would have qualified for Europe.
'We had players like Palacios, Cattermole, Valencia, Heskey - top quality. They were a good team and I enjoyed working with them immensely.
'Maybe they didn't get all the big attention but they were excellent. At the time I needed a big challenge and that's exactly what it was.
'They were marooned at the bottom of the table when I joined and the players turned it around.'
'The countdown for this weekend started earlier than usual, for obvious reasons`
'We`ve all been beaten badly in football, anyone who has played professional sport has taken a hiding now and again.
'What is important is how you respond to it and I would expect a very big response from Wigan and also with me going back will mean another reason they`ll want to turn us over.
'There are still some very, very good players at Wigan`.
