Dave Whelan - That Win Was So Important

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan spoke to the Latics official site after the win against Sunderland and he said that he was very pleased with the performance of the players and the effort that they put in for boss Roberto Martinez.

Whelan said that the loss against Spurs was gone and we had to move on, he said that it showed how important the win was because the three points moved us up the table three places; Latics are just 3 points behind Sunderland who are in 8th spot.

The Latics chairman also revealed that the club has a target of 24 points by Christmas and he feels that they are on course to achieve that, he said: "I thought we deserved it, the lads played hard, fought hard and ran so well. Roberto deserved that.

"The 9-1 at Tottenham is been gone, over, we`ve got to forget it, get up and get on with it and today I thought the lads gave everything they could.

"The 3 points today lifts us up three places it`s amazing, the task is getting 24 points by Christmas, if we get up there we are happy, Roberto`s happy and we can go on and hopefully get in the top half or even the top five or six."

Must be dreaming when he goes on about top 5 or 6, at least in the short term but otherwise good stuff!

The loss might carry on into this week. It was the size of about 3 regular losses.
