Dave Whelan Applauds Latics Loyal Support

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan spoke about the support of the fans following the 1-0 win against Sunderland at the weekend and he said that although there aren`t too many what we have are very loyal and great to see.

Whelan said that it is important to remember that we have come from the fourth division with gates of 1,400 week in and week out just over 10 years ago and now we have over 20,000 attendances.

Speaking to the clubs official website Whelan said: "Our supporters are loyal, at the moment there aren`t enough of them, but what you have got to remember is that we have come from the 4th division.

"The support we have at the moment is great to see. It`s a gradual process, 10 years ago we had 1,400 on every game, we are now up to just over 20,000 today and if the lads keep playing like that, fighting like that the attendances will continue to grow"
