Wigan Athletic paid out over £3.5 million in agents fees between October 2008 and September 2009 in order to have 12 incoming transfers dealt with in this period.
Steve Bruce made 5 signings and Roberto Martinez has brought 7 players to the club in their time in charge during the period concerned though Bruce spent more in transfer fees.
Whatever your take on the amount paid to agents it is pleasing to see that the Premier League clubs have followed the example set by Football League clubs in releasing these figures and are starting to be a little more transparent in their dealings.
With ever increasing transfer fees and the amount players are paid in wages finding their way in to the public domain football supporters are now getting a clearer picture of where all the money goes and the disclosure of agent fees well help to keep fans informed and if nothing else will serve as a talking point in the pubs and on the message boards.
Following a rule change Premier League clubs are now required to publish what they have spent in agent fees in the preceding 12 months from October to September
A Football Association spokesperson said: 'We are pleased that, through these new requirements, clubs are bringing greater transparency to the domestic transfer market.
'For the first time, there will be a game-wide picture of the level of spending on agents. The leagues and other key stakeholders have been fully supportive, following the example set by the Football League with its publication of agents fees over the last few years.'
