Martinez - 'McCarthy is Going Nowhere`

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has reiterated his stance on summer signing James McCarthy by saying the young midfielder is going nowhere following speculation of a loan move to Hamilton or a Championship club.

Speaking at the fans forum a couple of weeks ago Martinez said he wasn`t a fan of loaning out young players and preferred to watch over their development himself and he now appears to be re-affirming this with his comments about 18 year old summer signing James McCarthy.

There have been rumours abound that McCarthy would be loaned out but speaking to the press Martinez says this isn`t the case, not at the moment anyway, citing a busy schedule of games and a limited squad the Latics boss says everyone is needed.

Martinez says: 'The squad is very thin and we have six big games before the transfer window opens - and I can't see any movement at all before then.

'James has the potential to be an outstanding talent, and we need to make sure we treat him well and give him the right amount of time to develop into a player who will give this club a lot of happy times.

'We'll address the situation again in January, but we have six massive games between now and then and we need everyone ready and available.

'James produces great standards on a daily basis in training, and he is not a long way away from the first team.

'We want him to carry on competing and proving he is ready to play for the first team, but we'll reassess his situation in January.

'There is nothing in it at the moment.'

I'd like to see him given a run out with us

Sounds strange, Bobby. You use the same 11 every week! + Gomez every week on sub and sometimes Sinclair. I don't think that reserve team play would give a lot to James. I think loan is the best option for him in January.

What if we manage a cup run? We might need him then.

Funny that wigan today have just put out an article saying Martinez has not ruled out a loan move for him. http://www.wigantoday.net/latics/Whizzkid-may-go-out-on.5880585.jp
