Martinez - 'Lets Create That Special Environment'

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is asking the fans to keep up the good work ahead of the clash with Birmingham City and create that `special environment` that is a vital element of his teams performance.

Last week against Sunderland the supporters reacted magnificently to the defeat at Spurs, turning out in numbers and really getting behind the team, there was a great atmosphere created and Martinez is looking for more of the same tomorrow.

The Latics lost their first two home games against Wolves and Manchester United but since they have really turned it around making the DW Stadium somewhat of a stronghold and Martinez puts this down to the fantastic home support as much as anything else.

Speaking to the clubs official website he says that the reaction is one of being proud to be Wigan Athletic, he said:'Since the game against West Ham Untied the environment we've created at the DW Stadium has been a vital element of our performances.

'It's been special and it's made a big difference, especially after last weekend with the pain we suffered. The reaction we had at the club and around the pitch was one of being proud to be Wigan Athletic, and that's something we need to maintain. It wins us points and gives us an extra yard on the pitch.'
