Wigan Athletic - Brenda Confident Of Go Ahead

Wigan Athletic chief executive Brenda Spencer says she is quite optimistic that the Boxing Day home fixture against Blackburn Rovers will go ahead as planned.

The Latics have drafted in a JCB in a bid to clear the approach roads, car parks and stadium access of dangerous snow covered ice, which was the main cause of the postponement of Monday nights game with Bolton.

The temperature is also forecasted to rise slightly between now and Saturday giving the chance of a thaw but Brenda Spencer says that the club aren`t relying on that and they are doing everything in their power to ensure the dangerous conditions are eliminated as much as possible.

Speaking to the press Brenda said: 'Ultimately, we can't control the weather of course, but we are doing everything in our power to try and keep the game on'

'At the moment the forecast seems quite favourable in that there could be a slight thaw before the weekend.

'But we cannot afford to leave anything to chance, which is why we are trying to clear the stockpiles of snow now and spending a considerable sum of money to make this happen.

'At this stage, we are confident the game will be played.'
