A Busy Time Expected in January at the DW

A Busy Time Expected in January at the DW

At the fans forum back in October Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez said that he cant wait for the start of next season when he will have his `own` team in place and promised a few new faces in each of the transfer windows as he builds a side to reflect his footballing philosophy.

Well the first transfer window since that statement is now open and if all the rumours and gossip columns are to believed we can expect quite a bit of movement down at the DW Stadium between now and February 2nd.

Already in we have Serbia international goalkeeper Vladimir Stojković who has joined the Latics initially on loan for the rest of the season from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon and currently on trial down at the DW is former Borussia Munchengladbach defender Steven Gohouri.

Add to these strong rumours of the imminent arrival of Chile international defender Waldo Ponce and Colombia forward Jackson Martinez and it appears that the arrival lounge will be very much occupied during the next four weeks.

Richard Kingson and Cho Won-Hee have already been told by Martinez that they are free to leave the Latics as they look to secure regular first team football ahead of next summers World Cup Finals and they could be joined on the way out by Olivier Kapo, Jason Koumas and Daniel De Ridder.

A surprise departure just might be club skipper Mario Melchiot who`s contract expires in the summer and at 33 the Latics may feel he is just too old to be offered new terms.

Trio Maynor Figueroa, Charles N`Zogbia and Hugo Rodallega have all been the subject of interest from other clubs according to media reports over the past few days, it is imperative that a `not for sale` sign is hung firmly around their heads if we are to seriously build a side capable of challenging for something more than just 17th spot in the Premier League.

What ever the comings and goings over the next few weeks, all the rumours and gossip, Vital Latics will endeavour to bring you all the news as it happens.

you know our best players will go they always do. I bet Figueroa, n'zogbia & rodallega will not be at the club at the end of the season but rejects like scotland and the others that have no desire to work hard for the club will be. unless we get a desent striker and sort our shambles of a defence out we will be in the championship next season.

Thats a bit harsh on Scotland. He trys as hard as anyone just needs a bit of luck to get a goal and then he will be away i reckon and get a few. Need to get rid of kingson, koumas, de ridder, cho, maybe melchiot, kapo and edman. In: J Palacios, Onouha, Solid CB, Back-up LB, Michael Brown??, Jason Roberts, Jackson Martinez, Bentley??, and an Creative goalscoring attacking midfielder. All Dreams though.

i dont feel im being harsh on scotland he is clearly not premiership material he has had open nets and still not scored i think it has been just too much of a step for him i was only 2 years ago he was a league 1 player and hes not a young player so he wont adjust so quickly
