'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Stojković - I`m So Vlad To Be Here

Wigan Athletic have officially announced the loan signing of Serbia international goalkeeper Vladimir Stojković who took part in his first training session today following his switch from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon.

The six foot five inch shot stopper will be in the squad for Saturday`s game with Aston Villa and he says he is delighted to be joining the Latics and getting his chance in the Premier League.

Speaking to the clubs official site Stojković said: 'Everyone knows about the quality of the English Premier League so to get a chance like this is a fantastic opportunity for me.

'It is going to be very tough because I know the quality of the goalkeepers already here but every professional trains to play first team football. I am looking forward to the challenge of getting in the team and fighting for a place.'

Latics boss Roberto Martinez says he is thrilled to have brought the 26 year old goal keeper to the club and he is looking forward to Stojković bringing some competition to the last line of defence, Martinez said: 'Vladimir is a highly experienced keeper who is the number one choice in his home country,' he said, 'that shows you the calibre of professional we are signing, as a player but also in terms of his character and determination to succeed.

'He will add tremendous competition for places in the goalkeeping department"

Still, hard to get excited about a 6 month replacement for Richard Kingson.
