Sunderland Now Fancy Chris Kirkland

Sunderland Now Fancy Chris Kirkland

Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is being linked with a move to Sunderland according to the Sunday People with Steve Bruce ready to offer £5 million for the big shot stopper.

Kirkland had a fantastic season last year and put his form down to goalkeeping coach Nigel Spink who followed Steve Bruce up the A1 to Sunderland during the summer but so far this season Kirkland has seen his form dip and he`s conceded quite a few goals including nine in the game at Spurs.

There are also major concerns over Kirkland`s back and he has a special training regime to help him stay fit though he has already missed games this season and had to be replaced in two.

The big question is, if this speculation is true, would Kirkland ever pass a medical? Highly doubtful, he won`t even attempt to catch a cross until the second half of a game because his back hasn`t 'warmed-up`.

Cant see anyone paying £5 million for someone who spends half the year on a treatment table

As much as I admire CK Worbo, we need a number #1 we can rely on and whose not so injury and unfortunately, error prone. Kirky's done us proud but he's too inconsistent for me. Its like the team at the moment. You never know which one's going to turn up but that can't all be laid at his door due to the sloppy defence this season.

I guess 5 Million would be a good deal then. Nice to see the good old headless Kirky pic again ;)

Heard Ben Foster is available for 3-4m. When he gets a run of games and some confidence he is one of the best england goalkeepers. Could cope with players leaving if we had deals done before for players replacing them that are of a similar or better standard.

If we can get £5m for Kirkland from Sunderland we should take it. Kirkland is probably my favorite Latics player, but this season his back has become an issue and we have to reserve a sub spot for him every game just in case.

Agreed. I love Kirky but for this price I'd definitely accept.
