It is being reported that Sunderland are set to offer £2 million plus Kieran Richardson for Wigan Athletic defender Maynor Figueroa who the Latics value at £8 million.
Steve Bruce must be getting desperate, no wins in 8, a pounding at Chelsea yesterday and trying to off load his garbage to get Figueroa on the cheap, sometimes words come back to haunt people and Bruces comments about shopping at Harrods is looking like a big joke as his return to the North East is in jeopardy of collapsing around him.
Figueroa is a quality player and the first question of this equation would be why on earth would he want to go to Sunderland in the first place? If he was to leave the Latics then there are bigger clubs than the wannabe Geordies that would surely be interested.
Secondly why on earth would the Latics want to take Kieran Richardson anyway? The lad isn`t good enough to get into the current Wigan side so Bruces valuation of him at £6 million is way off the mark and his temperament is very much questionable, not the type of player that the Latics would really want.
When Bruce left the Latics back in June he blazed to the press that he was going to a bigger club with massive finances and a genuine prospect of European football and no longer needing to, as he put it, shop at Tesco but now he could try Harrods.
Well the bargain basement buys at Wigan have the club sitting one place and one point below mega rich Sunderland in the league table and the Latics have a game in hand on their much more illustrious rivals.
This week Steve Bruce told Stoke that they couldn`t afford to buy Kenwyne Jones, they didn`t have the money, well Brucie it looks like you need to get your own house in order before sorting out others, either stump up the cash for Figueroa or don`t come calling with crazy notions that the Latics will take the dross from your club as part payment on quality.![]()
