'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Whelan - Wigan Athletic Stars Staying Put

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has reiterated Roberto Martinez` stance that none of the Latics stars will be sold during the January transfer window.

There has been mounting speculation with regards to trio Hugo Rodallega, Charles N`Zogbia and Maynor Figueroa but the Latics owner says they are going nowhere.

Recognising the fact that the Latics need to sell to survive Whelan says that the situation will be reviewed during the summer but he is adamant that at the moment they are going to stay, Whelan said: 'We have got quality players, who will go to top-six teams, but not until the end of the season.

'We are Wigan, we have to buy and sell players, and you can't stop a lad going up to the top level, the top six teams, and I would never do that.

'Two or three of our lads will go to big clubs and I never stand in their way.'

Top scorer Hugo Rodallega has been the subject of interest from Premier League rivals Stoke City with a £10 million offer for the Colombia international rumoured to have been made but again Whelan is dismissive of this and says Hugo is needed to stay at the DW Stadium to fire the goals to keep the Latics in the Premier League.

Whelan admitted: 'We don't want to sell Hugo, full stop but we are Wigan and have to be sensible. But there is no chance of selling Hugo in the window. We are selling no-one in the window.

'Those kind of players are the difference between staying up and getting relegated. You've got to score goals to stay up. He is just brilliant, that lad, a wonderful player.

'Rodallega could have had two or three goals against Wolves. He is so quick but it wouldn't go in for him. He is normally lethal as a striker and is a real handful."

Great stuff. No need to buy buy buy, so long as we don't sell.

I like him enough to pee on his hands to keep them warm. I'm not good at aiming though !!!

We do need to strengthen. Buying 6 or 7 players just makes it difficult, but 2 or 3 really good ones is the answer.
