Martinez in Spain to Tie Up Aduriz Deal?

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez was in Spain yesterday as he took in the Real Mallorca Vs Getafe Copa Del Ray game with his eyes firmly fixed on Mallorca striker Aritz Aduriz.

Mallorca lost the home tie 2-1 and Aduriz didn`t score as the Islanders were outplayed by their Madrid based opponents but Martinez will no doubt have been over to finalise negotiations rather than compile a scouting report.

The Latics have chased the former Athletic Bilbao striker for some time now and a 4 miillion deal for the 28 year old is expected to be completed before the weekend.

Before he flew out to Spain Martinez said: 'We are very, very excited about a number of possible signings, but the focus has to stay on the players here first and foremost and the games we have coming up.'

Also speaking to reporters Latics chairman Dave Whelan confirmed that a striker is now the priority, he said: 'I have meetings with Roberto once or twice a week, and he is never happy. He is always looking.

'We've already brought in three players, but Roberto is constantly on the look-out for quality players and he wants a striker now.

'We're looking at that and we'll see if we can help him.'
