Latics in Talks With Villarreal Over Ruben Switch

Sky Sports are reporting that Wigan Athletic are in talks with La Liga club Villarreal over a move for their reserve team striker Argentina international Marco Ruben.

The 23 year old front man is at the moment playing in the second tier of Spanish football with Villarreal`s reserve side and so far this season he has scored 9 goals, Ruben also has one cap for his country.

Ruben joined Villarreal in January 2008 for £5 million and was immediately loaned out to Recreativo Huelva staying for the next 18 months scoring 7 goals in 43 appearances.

This season Ruben has been playing in the Villarreal reserve side in Spain`s second division and he is enjoying a good goalscoring season so far.

Sky report that Villarreal wont allow Ruben to come to the Latics on loan and will want to recoup the £5 million that they paid for him, apparently the player is aware of Latics interest and is keen for the move to go ahead.

As a side note the last time that Wigan Athletic dealt with Villarreal it was for the signing of Antonio Valencia who like Ruben had been signed by the Spanish club then loaned out to Recreativo Huelva, lets hope for a similar outcome.

Almost got him on loan in FM the day before all these rumours started. Does seem risky.
