'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Hot Shot Latics

There has been much said about the number of goals that Wigan Athletic have conceded so far this season and although the stats can`t be argued with there is another side to this that often gets overlooked, the goals scored compared to last season.

From the turn of the year Roberto Martinez` men have scored 8 goals and it has taken them just three games and three weeks to achieve this, go back 12 months and it was the 11th April before the Latics under Steve Bruce hit 8 goals from the turn of the year, it also took a staggering 14 games for this to be achieved.

With 13 players already on the score sheet this season looks likely to be more productive as a team effort compared to last year when 15 different players scored in all competitions for the Latics, so with half a season remaining and a minimum of 19 games Roberto`s style sure looks to be the more adventurous one.

It is a well used phrase that being hard to beat will keep you in the Premier League and again it is difficult to argue with that but not conceding goals doesn`t win you games, scoring goals does and if the club want to progress then victories ahead of draws are the way forward.
