Wigan Athletic - Ruben Transfer Falls Through

Wigan Athletic look to have missed out on the signing of Argentina striker Marco Ruben from Spanish club Villarreal after the two clubs couldn`t agree on a fee for the 23 year old.

A message on the Villarreal official website simply says Marco Ruben will continue his career at Villarreal after failure to reach agreement with Wigan Athletic over his transfer.

Sources close to the Villarreal and to the player indicate that the deal is not dead but further discussions will take place in the hope of finding a solution to the situation.

Villarreal had accepted an initial offer of about 4.5 million Euros, an amount which could increase with results. It is this latter point that is the sticking point between the two clubs. On Tuesday differences between the clubs about fine details of the contract stopped the deal going through and Ruben was ordered to return to Spain
