Manchester United have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Wigan Athletic defender Pascal Chimbonda according to reports.
Man Utd have made a bid of £3 million, which beats the Spurs bid of £2 million, but is still well short of Paul Jewell's and Dave Whelan's valuation of £6 million.
Chimbonda has featured in a number of 'Teams of the Season' in the last few weeks including notably the PFA award.
Paul Jewell has not ruled out the possibility of Chimbonda playing for the Latics again next season if nobody comes up with the required transfer fee.
