Looking ahead to the Wigan Atletic Vs Bolton Wanderers local derby on Wednesday.
Wigan Athletic defender Gary Caldwell as played in one of the biggest and fiercest derby games in the world the Celtic Vs Rangers derby so he knows a thing or two about the intensity of the occasion.
With both the Latics and Bolton at the wrong end of the table Wednesdays visit to the DW Stadium of the Wanderers will if nothing else be a very tense affair and Caldwell says that all though it is important to fight for every ball it is also vital to remain calm and focused.
Speaking to the Latics official website Caldwell says that so long as the lads do what they are good at they will achieve a positive result and he has called for the Latics fans to get behind the team.
The Scotland international says that through his experiences at Celtic he knows that the right support can drive the team to get some amazing results and he hopes that the Wigan supporters will play their part.
Speaking to wiganlatics.co.uk Caldwell said: 'A local derby where we are both in positions we don't want to be in. It's going to be a tense night, everyone's going to be fighting for every ball so we have to be up for it and impose ourselves on the game. If we do that I'm sure we can go on and take all three points.
'In derby games you have to remain calm. I remember Old Firm games were frantic with tackles flying in and it was always the team who could remain calm, concentrate and not get wrapped up in the occasion that came out on top. I think Wednesday night will be very similar to that, we have to remain focused on our jobs, do what we're good at and get a positive result on the night.'
'The fans also play a massive part in every game. I remember at Celtic on big nights and European games with the fans behind us we managed to get some amazing results, and I think fans have to appreciate the big role they have. Their support is going to help us and our home form is going to be vital and I'm sure they'll be there for us on Wednesday night.'![]()
