Martinez Calls For Desire

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez says that now isn`t the time to feel sorry for themselves even though they have gotten into the habit of throwing games away after taking the lead.

With 19 points lost from winning positions the Latics could have been challenging for a top 8 spot rather than nervously trying to avoid the bottom three but Martinez believes that his side are close to being the team he wants them to be.

With just eleven games of the season remaining the Latics boss is calling for his men to show their bottle and desire and he is asking them to scrap for every ball, speaking to the press Martinez says: 'We cannot and must not start feeling sorry for ourselves'

'We will not allow that to happen.'

'We have thrown away 19 points in games when we were ahead.

'Things could have been different but I firmly believe we are close to being the team we want to be.

'We were very poor in the first half against Birmingham last weekend and showed real fear.

'We need to work hard off the ball and scrap for everything. We have the quality we now have to prove we have the desire.

'It's not the time to panic though because everything is still in our hands.'

Vital Latics Meet The Gaffer

Vital Latics have been invited to meet and chat with Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez and we are asking for sensible questions to put to the boss. If you would like to put a question to Roberto about the Latics, our league position, current form, what he sees for the future etc post it in the Latics Speyk forum and I will endeavour to bring it up in the meeting
