Wigan Athletic player Paul Scharner has spoken about his intention to leave the Latics this summer citing the fact that he is tired of constantly being part of a relegation battle as one of his main reasons.
Following his appearance for Austria in their 2-1 victory over Denmark last night Scharner spoke to Austrian sports website, sportnet.at and confirmed his intentions to leave the DW Stadium when his contract expires in the summer.
The 30 year old defender is able, under the Bosman rules, to speak to `other` clubs about the possibility of moving on in July, but he does have the option of another year at Wigan should he not find anywhere suitable to ply his trade.
Speaking about the Latics playing style Scharner says that possession of the ball is the main objective of manager Roberto Martinez but the Austria captain is very critical of the playing surface at the DW saying that you need a good pitch but the one at the ground is like a disaster area.
The always colourful Scharner also question whether the latest recruits to the playing staff are aware of what is required of them in the final matches of the season as the Latics fight a relegation battle and with Liverpool coming to town on Monday he says that the team must seek the win to get the three points.
Speaking to sportsnet Scharner said: We play every year against relegation and that absolutely does not interest me anymore.'
' I am a free agent in the summer. I may have an option of another year on my side, but it would not be good to stay'
'It is still too early to say when something concrete will be sorted.'
'Of course you need also a well-kept pitch to play our style of football and we had so far been a disaster.'
'In England, a relegation battle does go to war. We've hired in the summer of ten players who are not aware of this because they weren`t Premier League-tested.'
'A draw on Monday would be no use. We need three points, so that our negative trend is finally over'
