Vital Wigan member Phil Blinston aka Zakidaman, gives us his take on last nights victory over Liverpool

Fan-tastic

By Phil Blinston.

Wigan Athletic 1-0 Liverpool

Wigan were simply wonderful. They played with commitment, passion and pace. They were first to the ball every for every challenge. In recent times the players and the fans have taken stick from the media, this week Roberto Martinez called to arms the Wigan fans, and both fans and players responded magnificently.

I couldn`t pick a man of the match because it wouldn`t be fair to any other player we were excellent in every department.

Upfront Marcelo Moreno hounded and battled for every ball and was a handful for the Liverpool defence. The 22-year-old Bolivian striker moved to Shatkhr Donetsk in May 2008 and couldn`t settle, he`s already looking at home here in Wigan, and I can see much more to come from this boy.

In midfield Wigan were immense, Mohamed Diame and Paul Scharner controlled this department but special praise must go to the teenager James McCarthy who thoroughly outplayed Steven Gerard.

N`Zogbia and Rodallega embarked on some great runs flying down the flanks to good effect, testing Javier Mascherano , and Emiliano Insua. The yellow cards started to fly and so did N`Zogbia with Insua clattering his high-speed tormentor.

In defence Wigan were awesome. Titus was a treat to watch, and won every defensive header and Emerson Boyce surely earned back his starting position for the rest of the season. Boyce set up Rodallega`s goal when he was gifted the ball by Dirk Kuyt swiftly transferring it into the box and there was Hugo to send it past Pepe Reina.

Liverpool were weak in possession, how many times have you heard that, though they gave their all, it was never going to be enough to overcome a fabulous Wigan display. I spoke to a Liverpool fan after the game. He spoke in the old language of Anglo Saxon, and once translated, he said "We, Liverpool were not very good" I replied and said, you weren`t really that bad, you did try very hard, but you were just not good enough. No one could have beaten us tonight. I am so very proud of the players and so pleased for Roberto Martinez, I think this occasion, I speak for every Wigan Athletic fan on earth.
