War of Words Or Just A Spat?

War of Words Or Just A Spat?

According to some media outlets a war of words has broken out between Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez and Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan, more like a playground spat I`d say.

So what is all the fuss about?

Following the Latics 1-0 win over Benitez` side on Monday Whelan said he felt that Liverpool are in a mess and he points the finger at the fact that the owners are from the USA claiming that they don`t feel what the fans feel

Not too controversial then, in reply Benitez says that he doesn`t want to talk about the Latics and that Whelan should just keep to talking about his own club, again nothing too controversial.

Whelan said to Sky Sports: "Liverpool are in a mess. The owners, being American, I don't think they feel what we [fans] feel.'

'The big sympathy I have is for the Liverpool supporters because they are a fantastic lot'

'I'm really, really sorry for their supporters. We went to Anfield earlier in the season and there was absolutely no atmosphere and no heart at all.

'The supporters feel that and I think the players are starting to feel it.'

Benitez returned: 'I do not talk about Wigan. He [Whelan] should talk about his own club.'

Looks like the media are just trying to stir it up with the claims of a war of words.

He's right though ;)

Whelan sometimes just needs to keep his mouth shut
10/03/2010 21:01:00
Since when did Ranting Raffa own LFC ? he should concentrate on the tactics the silly arse or can the yanks not speak!!
10/03/2010 21:45:00
zakidaman, its Rafa, not Raffa, and if he wants to defend his club then that his is right. There was no reason for Whelan to make those comments, you beat us comfortably and he should have just been enjoying it. You dont beat a team for the 1st time in your history then say "Youre in a mess". I like Whelan and I like Wigan Athletic but the comments were unnecessary.
10/03/2010 21:57:00
Rafffa then lol I know a few Liverpool fans, and good eggs they are. Most are sick and fed up of the Yanks, and Raffffffa true be known. He made a coment that's all. It's still free speech in this country. Soft lads yanks can't even speak for themselves. Whelan felt for genuine Liverpool fans thats all. Get over it.
10/03/2010 22:04:00
Raffffffffffffffa's a sore loser
11/03/2010 01:40:00
We are in a mess!!! Plain and simple so I don't see any malice in Whelan's comments... although personally, I feel Whelan's close relationship with Sherry nose was the real reason as to why he decided to make a comment :)
11/03/2010 06:31:00
While I agree that Uncle Dave likes to open his mouth a little more than most of us fans might like, it's a bit rich Benitez complaining about him talking about Liverpool. Rafa's constantly making comments about other clubs and their managers.
11/03/2010 14:33:00
The thing that annoys me most is that instead of revelling in the victory he feels sorry for the Liverpool fans. Why is he not focussing our next win over a top side instead of worrying about others?? To a degree its like he's undermining his own club and is completely uncalled for. Not to mention stirring things up for nothing.
11/03/2010 15:51:00
He did revel in the victory. Why can he do both.
