Arsenal Eye Up James McCarthy Move

Wigan Athletic midfield man James McCarthy has become a focus of Arsenal with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger despatching chief scout Steve Rowley to watch the Latics youngster.

Having joined Roberto Martinez at Wigan last summer from SPL side Hamilton Academicals McCarthy has been allowed to adjust both to life at a Premier League club and also his new environment before being unleashed fully and boy as it worked.

Without doubt one of the clubs top performers but also on a consistent basis as week in week out the Republic of Ireland international belittles his age with man of the match displays.

A centre midfield player of the Steven Gerrard mould McCarthy will certainly develop into a prize asset for the Latics, he also has a very sensible head on his young shoulders, turning down the chance of a move to Liverpool whilst at Hamilton 3 years ago because he felt he wouldn`t be allowed to progress through lack of first team opportunities.

Maybe that fear of a lack of first team games will keep McCarthy`s head from turning or just a loyalty to the Latics, which apparently the boy has in abundance, will mean that young James will be a Latics player while he develops into his potential for a couple more seasons at least.

He is a fantastic player but he'd be better spending his time with us for the next couple of years whilst he develops into surely a world class talent
