'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Preview: Man City Vs. Wigan Athletic

Wigan travel to the city of Manchester Stadium to try and stabilize their survival hopes, but they wouldn't have chosen to go to Manchester Stadium as their first choice. However, its where they've ended up for a good old Manchester night of football. For Wigan, hopefully, that is.

Unfortunately, Manchester City welcome back Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor. He is a great talent and with the likes of Carlos Tevez and Craig Bellamy also in attack, Titus Bramble and Gary Caldwell will need to be at their absolute best to avoid defeat.

That said, Wigan have tasted defeat against Manchester City just once and I feel that tonight, if we can upset Mancini's fellas, it would really make the race for fourth spot interesting as well as boosting Wigan's survival hopes.

Manchester City crashed to defeat at Everton recently and recorded a morale boosting victory at Craven Cottage. However, despite this being seen as a home banker, I, like my friend Alan Hansen, don't believe it will be an easy game for City. With a team scrapping for their lives, these games are never easy.

Depressingly, Wigan have not notched a back to back win since way back when Wigan defeated Everton and also followed this up with a good victory over West Brom. Now is the time to change the record.

ROB'S PREDICTION
================

This is a difficult one to call but if the Wigan faithful can put in a shift and put to bed any post-victory blues, they could walk away from Eastlands with a good point but nevertheless, I think this will be City's night, but it won't be easy, mind.

Manchester City 1 Wigan Athletic 0

ROB'S FINAL THOUGHT
===================

I think Wigan need 4 pts from their last few games to survive. I don't think Hull will survive, nor Burnley or Portsmouth. I feel for Burnley and Portsmouth as they are both honest teams. Burnley had such a bright start to the season and Portsmouth's season never got going because of their financial woes. Nevertheless, I do think all three sides ultimately will be fine and before long, may yet see Portsmouth back in the Premier League.
