Jewell To Sign New Deal

Paul Jewell is about to sign a new 5-year contract with Wigan Athletic, keeping him at the club until 2001.

With Latics manager Paul Jewell and chairman Dave Whelan both back in the country after short breaks, negotiations are about to start on a new 5-year deal for PJ. While this won’t stop the inevitable speculation on Jewell taking every job that comes up such as the Newcastle United manager’s job, and those that haven’t come up like the Manchester City job, this will show Jewell’s commitment to the Latics and make our position stronger if anyone does come in for him.

Dave Whelan has often said that he wouldn’t stand in Jewell way if a ‘top’ club came in for him but this would allow us to claim a bigger sum in compensation if the worst happens.

I not surprised he has been offered a five year deal, after what he has achieved.
