'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Stuart Maconie Simply Loves Wigan Athletic

Broadcaster, entertainer, writer and Wiganer Stuart Maconie professes his love for home town club Wigan Athletic in an interview with the BBC`s Football Focus.

The Radio 2 DJ recalls how he used to stand on the terraces at the Shevy End of Springfield Park under the 'Cow Shed` in the early 1970`s and cheered on Dennis Reeves, Gordon Milne, Ian Gillibrand and his hero Geoff Davies in the glory years of the Northern Premier League and watched regularly as the Latics rose from non league to Premier League.

The mists of time though have clouded Stuarts memory slightly as he recalls he was at the JJB when we gained promotion to the Premiership with victory over Ipswich Town, we did beat the Tractor Boys that season at home but I`m sure it was victory over Reading that sealed our fate.

Still my memory isn`t the best so no dig intended to Stuart who is a good friend of a good friend of mine and he did promise me an interview for Vital which never came through, maybe he forgot, anyway he didn`t forget to do his Football Focus interview and you can see it by visiting bbc.co.uk

A good lad and a true Latics mon.

PS Stuart if you are still up for the interview send us a quick email
